Carol J. Sammons, 76, of Rome passed away on Friday, January 25, 2019, at her home surrounded by her family.

Carol was born on January 26, 1942, at Rome the daughter of Walter T. “Chubb” and Grace Scarff White. She was united in marriage to Jack Burden on April 13, 1958. She later married John F. Sammons on February 11, 1963 at Aledo, Illinois, he preceded her in death on February 26, 2010. Carol worked as a bookkeeper for Sammons and Sons Trucking for a number of years and was the secretary for the City of Rome. Carol was a very kind and gentle lady who had a sense of humor thru all things. She enjoyed collecting Elvis Presley items.

Carol is survived by her children, Brian Burden of Mt. Pleasant, Doug (Brenda) Burden of New London and Denise (Tony) Cosgrove of Rome, 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, one brother, George White of Norwalk.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son Johnnie and one daughter Rhonda, one brother, Edward White and three sisters, Norma Boeding, Phyllis Helton and Ida Kay Welding.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 28, 2019, at 2 p.m. at the Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Pastor Guy Sammons officiating. Burial will follow in the Grant Cemetery rural Rome. The family will receive friends following the service at the Rome Baptist Church. Memorials may be directed to the Rome Baptist Church or Every Step Hospice in her memory.
