David Allen Dickhoff

David Allen Dickhoff, 72, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Sunday, February 10, 2019, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

David was born on March 24, 1946, at the Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City, Iowa the son of Donald E. & Ruth Mae (Greene) Dickhoff. He joined the United States Navy before he finished high school in 1964, and traveled the world. After his honorable discharge from the United States Navy, he was united in marriage to Martha Jean Ingwersen on November 10, 1969, in Illinois, they later divorced. Throughout David’s life he worked various jobs starting at a young age after the death of his father he started at a bowling alley resetting pins. This moved on to working at Sherman Nursery before and after school to help support the family. Later in his life he worked at painting water towers even with his fear of heights, on an Oil Rig, Blue Bird Midwest, sold Electro Lux Vacuums and aerial photos. He was the happiest when he was selling something. One of his sayings was “I could sell an air conditioner to an Eskimo”.

He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing with his son-in-law and grandchildren, spending time with his family and friends, cutting wood, picking and grinning and photography. In later years he would go hunting but would take his camera to take photos of the great outdoors.

David his survived by his two daughters, Carma Sue (John) Seitz of Trenton, Jeanine Lee Dickhoff of Mt. Pleasant, 3 grand-daughters, Christina Mae Seitz, Lesley Marie (Justin) Prough and Indica “Indy” Starr Browning and one grandson, William “Liam” Wayne Browning III, and 2 great-grandchildren, Elaina Marie Prough and Orin Lane Prough, one sister, Sharon Herman of Iowa City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son who died at birth, 3 brothers, Chuck Dickhoff, Danny Dickhoff and William Dickhoff and one sister, Jeannine Bluhm.

Memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2019, at 10 a.m. at the Trenton Missionary Church with Rev. David Forrester officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 22, 2019, from 5 to 7 p.m. that evening at the Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant. A memorial has been established in his memory. Following the services at the church Full Military Honors will be conducted by the Henry County Honor Guard.
