Ellen L. Donnolly, 96, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Friday, July 30, 2021, at the Park Place Elder Living Center in Mt. Pleasant.

Ellen was born on September 26, 1924, at her parents’ home rural New London, the daughter of Porter Linn and Clara (Skipton) Forbes. She graduated from Pleasant Lawn Consolidated School and went on to AIC Business College in Davenport. Ellen was united in marriage to Darrell Wayne Donnolly on July 10, 1944, at her parents’ home. He preceded her in death on February 5, 1989.

Ellen was a bookkeeper and had worked for Central States Insurance, Supply Cooperative, Steele Lumber and the Community Mental Health Center. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant, where she was church clerk for 32 years, taught senior high and adult Sunday school classes, various committees, American Baptist Women Organization, Seeds of Renewal, Mid-America Baptist Camp and Conference Task Force, Macedonia Ministries. She also belonged to the Mt. Pleasant Women’s Club, Mentor Club, Coterie Club, Henry County Health Center Auxiliary, was a Hospice Volunteer, RSVP and Wisdom Seekers.

Ellen enjoyed candle making, stamping, traveling, she made mission trips to Nicaragua and Israel.

Ellen is survived by her granddaughter, Patricia “Tricia” Erikson-Welch, of Aubrey, Texas, and her great grandson, Maharlika Erickson of Chicago, Illinois, her stepbrother, Kris (Linda) Johnston of Columbus Junction, Iowa, several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Darrell, her daughter, Joyce Lynn Erickson and her brother, Robert R. Forbes.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, August 17, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant with Rev. Steve English and Rev. Charles Comfort officiating. Ellen has donated her body to the University Of Iowa Carver College Of Medicine. A private burial will be held in the Forest Home Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant at a later date. Memorials may be directed to First Baptist Church of Mt. Pleasant or to Green Lake Conference Center at Green Lake, Wisconsin, financial gifts to Green Lake help maintain and improve the facilities, provide programming, and fund scholarships that enable hundreds of pastors, lay persons, youth and adults to come for conferences who would otherwise not have been able to attend in her memory.
