James G. Geeding

James G. Geeding

November 04, 1957 - December 01, 2017

James G. Geeding of Mount Pleasant, Iowa set off on a new adventure on Friday evening, December 1, 2017. Jim was born to Sid and Retha on November 4th, 1957 in Bartlesville, OK. Jim grew up in rural Buffalo, Iowa. He and his brothers, along with the neighboring Colvin boys were constant mischief-makers at the YWCA camp next door raiding cabins and “borrowing” canoes for late night paddle wars. Jim was a 1976 graduate of Davenport West High School. He married his high school sweetheart, Pamela Deierling, in 1979...They have dated for 42 years including a marriage of 38 years.

Jim was a devoted father. His family was his life and he has been their biggest cheerleader always...telling everyone “My wife’s an artist, my son’s a composer, and my daughter is an opera singer!” With endless energy, Jim was always up for an adventure...traveling when he could and always sneaking into places he shouldn’t. No one could climb a sand dune faster.

Jim was employed by the Henry County Highway Department until a stroke caused his early retirement. Besides his day job, Jim was an avid handyman and carpenter, working on his own home as well as restoring other older homes in Mount Pleasant. He loved to sing and used his voice for church services as well as participating in Mount Pleasant Community Theatre productions. Jim loved to bake bread and coconut macaroon pies. He also taught the little nieces and nephews how to tie their shoes.

His belief in God was an integral part of Jim. His faith helped him through his many health issues, especially when he could no longer do the things that he so loved.

Jim is survived by his wife-Pam; and daughter-Alaine, of Mount Pleasant; father-Sid Geeding, (Vicki), mother-Retha Vargus, siblings- Curt Geeding (Kelly), Chris Geeding (Charlene), and Christie Taylor and Clem Vargus (Carolyn) and their families, father-in-law-Frank Deierling, sister-in-laws-Judith White (Dennis), Debra Savage (Fred), brother-in-law-Mike Deierling (Kathy), plus a much-loved group of nephews and nieces and the greats. And of course, Thatcher and Pip who never left his side these past days.

Jim was preceded in death by his grandparents, mother-in-law, Lila Deierling, and his beloved son, Tade. Jim and Tade are probably out and about right now--causing a stir in the afterlife, and enjoying Lila’s all-day chocolate cake.

You are a loved man, Jim Geeding. Thank you for the gifts you gave to us.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. at Sugar Creek Mennonite Church rural Wayland, Iowa. Memorials can be made to Mount Pleasant Community Theatre or to the Tade Geeding Memorial Music Fund
