Stephen Scott Miller, 70, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Friday, August 9, 2019, peacefully and surrounded by his family at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City.

Stephen was born on November 8, 1948, in Iowa City the son of Ralph and Opal (St. John) Miller. He attended Mediapolis High School. He was united in marriage to Dianna Calhoun on December 21, 1973, who brought to this union two children, Judy and Randy who he raised as his own. Eight years later their family was complete with the birth of their daughter, Heather Dawn. Although Dianna and Stephen later divorced, she remained a big part of his daily life and continued to do all family gatherings together. She was by his side until his last breath.

He worked at Mt Pleasant Mental Health Institute and later transferred to the Mt. Pleasant Correctional Facility retiring after 33 years. He enjoyed spending time with Heather, Scot, and Remi at their home in the country. He also loved hanging out with Judy, Phil, Jes, Mark, Pierce and Maddax at Oakland Mills (his campsite for over 20 years).

He enjoyed shooting guns at the range, running bank poles and fishing on the river, gardening, camping, going to the Rec Center, and socializing with his friends and family. He was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Moose and the Open Bible Church of Mt. Pleasant.

Stephen is survived by his children, Heather Dawn White (Scot Roberson) of Mt. Pleasant, Judy (Phil) Barnett of Mt. Pleasant and Randy (Deb) Aynes of New London, 6 grandchildren, Remington White, Jennifer Carlsen, Jessica (Mark) Lanman, Ashley (Aynes) White, Paige (Michael) Sheckler and A.J.(Aynes) Karstens, eleven great grandchildren, two brothers, Paul (Barb) Miller of Mt. Union, Pete Miller of Washington D.C., two sisters, Margaret (Dick) Rinehart of Walton, Kentucky, Jane (Ron) Fuller of Salem, and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Tuesday, August 20, 2019, at the Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant where the family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. that evening. A private graveside service will be held at Forest Home Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. Memorials may be directed to the Disabled Veterans Association and The American Cancer Society in his memory.
